Survival rates for chronic kidney disease have improved over the past decade. The most significant improvements in survival come from better nutritional support for patients starting hemodialysis, preparing vascular access ahead of time to prevent catheter-related infections, and achieving psychological acceptance to consistently enhance attitudes toward treatment adherence. However, there are ongoing local and regional challenges related to health coverage for dialysis treatment and managing complications from chronic kidney disease. We present the original papers from the Nephrology Congress of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension, from the section "Chronic Kidney Disease and its Complications."
