Hemodialysis has advanced this decade: hemodiafiltration has shown improved survival and better outcomes in controlling cardiovascular symptoms, phosphorus levels, pruritus, and reducing the use of erythropoietin. The enhanced bone marrow response is partly due to the necessity of ultrapure water as part of hemodiafiltration treatment, which has been required in the "On-Line" system—a pending task in hemodialysis. The significance of these communications is that HDF results in fewer outpatient symptoms for patients compared to HD. Another study compares peritoneal dialysis and HDF in patients over 75 years old, showing a substantial difference with HDF associated with lower mortality. Another study examines quality of life in HDF versus HD, which is notably better with HDF. Additionally, a study measures the removal of B2 microglobulin comparing HDF and expanded HD, again favoring HDF. We present the best posters from the congress.
